WELCOME ABOARD

The Contemporary Elder Institute (CEI), a division of MBC Consultants Inc., established its headquarters on a floating home, commonly known as a houseboat, on the Willamette channel, in Portland, Oregon; the needed setting for the Departing Program.

The location is ideal for having those very challenging and dislocating conversations with someone who faces the end of who they have been and is unsure and somewhat bewildered about who they will be in their future.

The Departing Program is for late-age professionals who are about to leave or have left their well-established and burnished professional careers.

The Program abides by the definition of "departing" - starting a new journey; deviating from the accepted, prescribed, or traditional course of action.

The Departing Program is not about an ending but a new and conscious beginning.

·   The Program facilitates a shift in mindset from older to elder.

·   The Program enables a change from accumulated knowledge to higher wisdom via self-examination and self-understanding.

·   The Program alters the imposed relationship with aging, death, and dying—partner rather than the enemy.

·   The Program allows the realization of greater freedom, ease, and full self-expression in the late age years ahead.

·   The Program enriches and expands psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being.

·   The Program disengages the pull of the past and disconnects the well-burnished identity allowing a new future to emerge.

·   The Program answers the question, what's next in my late age years.

Preprogram (BeginsTwo Months Prior)

• Five 1-hour Zoom Calls – Two calls two months before onsite experience, then one call the month before. Three Zoom calls post onsite, one call per month.

• Two audiobooks from Audible (Amazon) (1 audio before 1st Zoom call and the other before the 2nd call).

• Three ~30-minute online videos (TED talks, YouTube) (one during 1st month, one before the 2nd call).

• Engage in limited journaling – bullet points. Note critical insights through self-reflection.

Onsite Program

Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. All sessions and meals will be served at the CEI houseboat headquarters except Friday night.

Transportation provided to and from the hotel to the houseboat. And from houseboat to airport on Sunday afternoon. On arrival, travel from PDX airport to the hotel is best served by either cab or Uber, given airline uncertainties. Plan to be at the hotel well before 7:30 pm on Friday.

Schedule

• Friday – 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Dinner at Client Hotel

• Saturday – 7:30 pm to 7:00 pm. A CEI Uber or Limo will pick you up at the hotel for the thirty-minute ride to the houseboat at 7:30 am. Bring your journal.

• Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner at the houseboat.

• Short mid-day nature walk on nearby Sauvie Island.

• The driver will bring you back to the hotel.

• Sunday – 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Breakfast and Lunch at the houseboat. CEI Uber pick up at 7:30 am at the hotel. Then 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and driven to the airport if leaving Portland.

Post Houseboat Engagement

• Monthly integration and coaching Zoom calls for the three months following the departing experience.

• Tuition - US$3,500.00

• Your only direct costs are your air travel and Uber or cab from the airport to the hotel. Your tuition includes all meals, hotel room, and transportation to and from the hotel and to the airport on Sunday.

• Your tuition covers all Zoom and e-mail interactions pre and post.

Prerequisite

• An online 30-minute interview with Dr. Cooper.

• If sending senior executives or senior healthcare providers is part of a corporate exiting and succession package, then calls with the participant's direct report are requested.
